FREEPORT — Ruth E. Diehl, a long-time resident of Lewiston, passed away Aug. 9, in Freeport.

She was the daughter of the late Guy and Edith (Denker) Pease and was born in Roxbury, Mass., Jan. 12, 1912. She was a 1929 graduate of Hyde Park High School and worked at F.W. Woolworth for many years, prior to her marriage to George L. Diehl on Aug. 18, 1934.

After their marriage, they moved to Lewiston, where she worked at the Bates Manufacturing Co., prior to raising her children. After her children had grown, she returned to F.W. Woolworth, retiring in the early 1970s.

She and her husband enjoyed many years at their lakeside cottage at Lake Thompson in Otisfield.

She is survived by her children, William and his wife, Gloria, of Mechanic Falls, Nancy Scott of Barrington, R.I., and Marjorie Tilley of Brunswick; grandchildren, Karen Statser of Barrington, R.I., Peter Scott of Bolton, Mass., James Scott of New York City, N.Y., Ellen Donaldson of Melrose, Mass., and Matthew Billey of Rockport, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Caleb Statser, Peter and Allison Scott and Thomas Donaldson; and a brother, Albert Pease of Minnesota.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; four brothers; and one sister.
