Library sleepover

PARIS — The Paris Public Library welcomes children, ages 10 to 13, to its third annual sleepover. The pajama party will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 and end at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21.

Participants will enjoy a night of snacks, crafts and games. All they will need to bring is a sleeping bag, pillow and flashlight or book light. Books to read before going to sleep may be brought or borrowed from the library’s collection. Preregistration for the program is requested. Society meeting

WEST PARIS — Members of the West Paris Historical Society will have a business meeting and potluck at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16. For more information, call Betty Jones at 674-2507.

The society also reported that they had a successful hall, yard and bake sale. Profits were used to paint the front of the building and build a ramp to make the building handicapped accessible

Bean supper

SOUTH PARIS — The Ladies Circle of First Congregational Church will sponsor a baked bean supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. There will be baked beans, casseroles, salads, hot dogs, brown bread, homemade rolls and homemade pies.

The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Yard sale

BUXTON — The First Congregational Church of Buxton will hold a community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, on the church lawn, corner of Routes 112 and 202.

There will be furniture, books, children’s items, attic treasures and more. Home baked goods, hot dogs and lemonade will also be available. All proceeds will benefit the church. Space rental, including table, is $10. For more information, call 222-2640.

Church bazaar

BRIDGTON — The St. Joseph’s Church Women’s Guild will host a Summer Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, in the parish hall, 225 South High St.

There will be plants, baked goods, crafts, jewelry, a white elephant sale and food available. A hand-pieced queen-size quilt and a green fiberglass canoe will be raffled at the end of the day.


SOUTH PARIS — Western Maine University and Community College Center will offer a new student orientation at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26. New students will have refreshments while touring the building and meeting other students and WMUCC staff.

Students will watch a live ITV broadcast welcoming new students around the state. Topics to be discussed include ITV classroom procedures, how to contact professors, how to submit assignments, how to check grades online, how to use statewide library services and how to access many other resources available to students.
