LEWISTON — Tickets go on sale Friday for a metal concert Oct. 9 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee headlined by longtime Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde and his band Black Label Society.

All tickets to the show are general admission and cost $31.50 in advance, $34.50 at the door. For tickets, call 783-2009, ext. 208; log on to www.thecolisee.com; or visit the box office at 190 Birch St.

Promoter Alex Gray of New England Concerts believes the show will sell.

“Metal does very well in Maine,” said Gray, who has booked a variety of genres at the Lewiston venue. Local metal fans seem to be particularly loyal to their bands, even if they are drawn to the music’s raucous rebelliousness, he said.

“Black Label challenges the establishment,” Gray said.

The show will be the 13th stop on a 37-city tour that begins Sept. 9 in Portland, Ore., and ends  Nov. 20 in San Francisco.

The tour is titled “Black Label Berzerkus.”

On Tuesday, the band released its eighth album, “Order of the Black.”

Previous recordings by the band, including 2005’s “Mafia,” have done well on Billboard’s independent album charts.

“The album has a lot of traction,” said Gray. Most of the songs were written by Wylde.

In 2005, the frontman made headlines when he smashed part of the interior of a Boise, Idaho, nightclub, according to the Associated Press.

More recently, the 43-year-old New Jersey native has made headlines for his reportedly poor health, including blood clots.

At the Lewiston show, Black Label Society will follow three opening acts: Children of Bodom, 2 Cents and Clutch. The latter band has played in Maine before, filling clubs with its own metal sound, Gray said.

The October concert is likely to be the first of several shows at the Colisee this fall, said Gray, noting he is also pursuing a pair of country tours and a comedy act.
