Texas hold ’em

NORWAY — The Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas hold ’em tournament on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Charlie’s Entertainment Center. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament will be from 1 to 6 p.m.

The entry fee is $55. There will be a limit of 100 players. There will be a cash bar and food and refreshments will be available.

Library program

PARIS — Parents and caretakers of beginning readers are invited to Paris Public Children’s Library at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, to converse about playful ways to encourage the love of words and books in young readers.

Librarian Billie Lou Damon will lead the discussion, which will focus on gift words, games, scrapbooks, lap reading, language experience and jigsaw sentences. Light refreshments will be available. For further information, call the library at 743-6994.

Open house

OTISFIELD — The Bell Hill Meetinghouse, Bell Hill Road, will be open for public inspection from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. The open house in partial compliance with the terms of a New Century Community Program grant for historic buildings renovation which the association received in 2008.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hymn sing

LOCKE MILLS — A hymn sing by the choirs of the Rumford Point Congregational Church UCC and the Locke Mills Union Church UCC will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at the Locke Mills Union Church.

All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will follow.
