Bedbug help

LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, in conjunction with the Neighborhood Housing League, will host an informative session on diagnosing and treating bedbugs at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20.

Shanna Rogers from the Neighborhood Housing League will lead the session and also address how to document and discuss the issues with landlords. Women of all ages are welcome to attend.

There is no cost and no registration is necessary. The center is located at 97 Blake St. For more information, call 523-3922.

Benefit dance

LEWISTON — A benefit dance for the family of Rianna Innman will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 21, at C.J.’s Hall on Webster Road. There will be a mix of 1950s, 1960s and country music. A cash bar will be available and attendees may bring snacks.

Innman, 2, has a condition which causes her to not walk, talk or hold things with her hands. She has to travel to Boston for treatments and rehabilitation. Cost is $10 each person and $15 each couple.

Cox reunion

WILTON — Member of the Cox family had their 84th reunion at Kineowatha Park on Aug. 14. There were 28 members in attendance for the potluck lunch, meeting and auction.

Dale (Cox) Madsen, from Leicester, N.C., traveled the farthest. Charlie Cox, 8, from Lisbon, was the youngest. The family held a moment of silence for two deceased members, Valentine Cox Jr. and Carol May Cox Gray. Next year’s meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the same location. A successful, donated items auction was conducted and some items created lively bidding and fun for all.

Beedy reunion

AVON — The 63rd annual Beedy reunion for the descendants of Aaron and Vailette Dunham Beedy will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the home of David and Greta Espeaignnette, 332 Mile Square Road.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish for the potluck dinner at noon, lawn chairs as well as Beedy treasures for the auction. Items for the family scrapbook are also appreciated. Call Greta at 639-2364 for directions or further information.

Grange meeting

POLAND — Excelsior Grange 5, 446 Harris Hill Road, will meet on Saturday, Aug. 21. The lecturer’s program will start at 7 p.m., followed by the business meeting. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion.

Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge club met on Aug. 17 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: tied at first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Jan Arey and Linda Lleotsakos; third, David Lock and LucilleTheriault; fourth, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; fifth, Claire Lyons and Marta Clements. Winners in Flight B were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; second, Marie Jeanne L’Esperance and Jackie Deschene. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the center.

The club also met on Aug. 18 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Richard Allen and Lucille Theriault; second, Mike and Pat Quinn; third, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; fourth, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell. The club will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at all games in the area. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

Society meeting

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the historical society building on 64 Elm St. Plans for the upcoming community supper in September as well as the society’s plan to open the building to the public at certain times will be discussed.

The public is invited to attend.

Dempsey benefit

AUBURN — A “Benefit Bash” to benefit the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will be held Friday, Aug. 27, at Lost Valley. Happy hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Music, dancing and entertainment by the Broad Street Band and Chad Porter will be from 7 to 11 p.m.
