The Franklin County Agricultural Society is looking for a larger fair this year than ever before and special attractions for each day have been provided for the entertainment of the public. The exhibition building is being enlarged to twice its size, the grandstand is being newly shingled and many more improvements are being made.

50 years ago, 1960

Maine’s Millionth Visitor, Eric Leighton of Three Rivers, Que., was feted at yesterday’s meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at the DeWitt Hotel. Lewiston Mayor Emile Jacques gave Leighton a key to the city while Mrs. Leighton received a box of Christmas tree ornaments from Ernest Paione, Jaycee guide for the couple and executive of the Paragon Glass Works of Lewiston.

25 years ago 1985

Lewiston Fire Department Capt. Louis G. Dumais has been named acting fire chief to replace Chief Sherman L. Lahaie Jr., who is resigning at the end of the week, City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin announced Monday.

Dumais will take over as Lahaie’s temporary replacement immediately. He will act as chief until a new chief is hired.
