POLAND — Ninety people attended the 34th Polland family reunion on Aug. 15 at Range Pond State Park. Many of the younger generation were welcomed as they brought their families and attended for the first time. Family members barbecued, played horseshoes, volleyball, water sports and card games.

Claire Prue, 8 months, daughter of Adam and Ruth Prue of Portland, was the youngest in attendance. Kenneth Hodsdon of Portage Lake, traveled the farthest, and is the eldest of the family.

While John Hall of Wells was absent, being in Singapore raising a submarine from the ocean’s floor, he was overwhelmingly elected president. Cynthia Pettengill of Wayne, will remain treasurer and will also assume the responsibilities of secretary.

Thanks went to Kathleen Ceppetelli for her leadership as president during the last four years, and to friends Lou and Beverly DeSantis, who were invited to continue to attend as honorary Pollands.

A family tree will be developed by Doug Gill and Cindy Pettengill for display at the next reunion and name tags for family members will be distributed.

Next year’s reunion is scheduled to be held on Sunday, Aug. 14.
