PORTLAND (AP) — A federal judge has found a former Maine prosecutor guilty on multiple child pornography charges.

District Judge John Woodcock Jr. issued the verdicts Monday following the jury-waived trial of 48-year-old James Cameron of Hallowell, Maine’s former top drug prosecutor.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Cameron Woodcock found him guilty of 13 charges and not guilty of two others. He was immediately placed into custody and will be sentenced later this year.

Prosecutors said Cameron created 17 different user profiles and left a trail of child porn on file servers and on his home computers.

Cameron’s attorney said the government failed to prove that it was Cameron who sent, received or possessed any illegal photographs or videos.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Cameron, over a 17 month period in 2006 and 2007, uploaded child pornography to Yahoo! photo albums, traded child pornography over the picture sharing program Google Hello and possessed child pornography that was found on computers seized from his home.

The investigation began in August 2007 when the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit received a Cybertipline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, stating that Internet Service Provider Yahoo! had discovered numerous images of child pornography in a Yahoo! account.

On December 21, 2007, a search warrant was executed at Mr. Cameron’s residence and four computers were seized. The investigation ultimately
revealed that Mr. Cameron had created 17 Yahoo! profiles and used them to store child pornography on Yahoo! servers. It also showed that he traded child pornography using Google Hello.

Finally, images of child pornography were found on his home computers.

The investigation leading to today’s verdict was conducted by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the United States Secret Service.
