TURNER (AP) — Maine officials say the largest egg farm in New England is not linked to the massive egg recall involving an Iowa egg farm with the same owner.

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the cause of as many as 1,300 cases of salmonella poisoning linked to eggs at Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms in Iowa.

Businessman Austin “Jack” DeCoster owns Wright County Egg and a company called Quality Egg LLC that supplies young chickens and feed to both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms.

Spokeswoman Hinda Mitchell says DeCoster also has an ownership stake in Maine Contract Farming, an egg farm in Turner with about 5 million hens formerly known as DeCoster Egg Farm.

Maine state veterinarian Don Hoenig says the company has not been linked to the recall.
