LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. The meal will include lobster or chicken salad rolls with pickles, chips, dessert and beverage. The cost of the meal is $7 each person.

After the meal, Larry Gilbert and Gerald Nicholas will give a presentation on their visit to Haiti earlier this year, followed by a musical program with “Sweet People” on DVD. Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal in the newly-renovated Heritage Hall followed by entertainment in the Performance Hall.

A few months ago a group of Lewiston citizens went to Haiti to help the desperate people who suffered through a devastating earthquake. Mayor Larry Gilbert and Gerald Nichols were two of many who went to donate some of their time and labor. They will give a PowerPoint presentation and a talk about their experience in Haiti.

The presentation will be followed by a 20-minute musical program featuring Alain Morisod of Sweet People. Morisod is a composer, arranger, musician and producer and his records are available in more than 80 countries around the world. In Canada, but mainly in Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario, they have given more than 1,300 performances and sold 3,500,000 albums. The Sweet People DVD will be presented on the center’s large video screen with sound from a state-of-the-art Bose system.

Everyone is invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
