JAY — Selectmen set the town’s tax rate at $13 per thousand valuation during a short meeting early Wednesday morning.

This is the third year that rate has not changed, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said.

Selectman Steve McCourt said the town and school have done a great job in curbing spending, she said.

Although the town was dealt a loss in value when the Otis Mill closed this year, higher values at other industrial properties offset the loss and evened out the valuation, allowing the town to keep last year’s rate, she said.

Paul Binette from O’Donnell and Associates did the industrial assessing this year for the first time and worked closely with industrial owners to reach a fair and reasonable assessment, she added.

The first half of taxes will be due Oct. 1 and the second half on April 1, 2011.
