WILTON — Police are investigating a burglary and destruction of a picnic table at Kineowatha Park sometime between 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, Police Chief Dennis Brown said.

A rear window of the main building was forced open and once inside, someone stole approximately $30 in cash and a large amount of rolled quarters, he said. The suspect also stole candy, keys and Powerade drinks.

The total amount taken was estimated at $200, he said.

An outside picnic table was also burned and destroyed, he said.

Police have obtained evidence at the scene and are interviewing people of interest but ask for public input. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Wilton Police Department at 645-3876.

The department is also investigating damage to one of the new benches installed at the foot of Wilson Lake. The vandalism occurred last Friday and the bench has already been repaired by the highway crew, he said.

In the past three days, the department has undertaken 18 criminal cases requiring in-depth investigations, four criminal mischief cases that included rock-throwing, breaking downtown flower pots, trespassing and three gas drive-offs, he said.
