JAY — Determining a school name, mascot and colors for the proposed consolidation of Livermore and Livermore Falls, and Jay school systems needs student involvement, Jay High Principal Gilbert Eaton told the Regional Planning Committee on Tuesday night.

Reporting for the Sports, Culture and Co-curricular Committee, Gilbert said their recommendations include a process for choosing a new middle school and new high school name, if Regional School Unit 36 and Jay School Department consolidate.

Sessions of student brainstorming and choosing a few ideas will include community historical and cultural research, he said. Students will then vote on their choices for the school name, mascot and colors with the results presented to the Regional Planning Committee, he added.

The committee also supports one school campus, one high school and one middle school, but continuation of culture/fine art and sports programs already in place in all schools.

In addition, the committee also recommends designating a performing arts center, something whose time has come for the school and community, he said.

The Regional Planning Committee unanimously approved the recommendations and process outlined by the subcommittee.
