Pineland half marathon and 5K announced

NEW GLOUCESTER – A half marathon and 5-kilometer trail race will take place at Pineland Farms on Sunday, Sept. 19. The races will benefit educational opportunities for students who have lost their parents and families.

The races begin at 8 and 8;30 a.m., across from the Market on Farm View St. Each race will wind through the adjacent fields and woods. Funds raised will pay the secondary school fees for orphaned students in the rural Machinga District of Malawi, through the non-profit Friends of Little Field Home. In Malawi there are an estimated 1 million orphans. All secondary schools are costly and usually more than most families make in one year. These races are to raise funds to give orphans a future and a chance to attend school.

You may run in the 5K or half marathon by registering @ www.mainerun.com or at www.littlefieldhome.org or on the day of the race from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. For more information call Janet Littlefield at 207-890-8205 or email janet@littlefieldhome.org.
