It was with great sadness that we learned of the recent vandalism at Riverside Cemetery on the banks of the Androscoggin River in Lewiston. This thoughtless act of disrespect to the deceased and their families and loved ones was inexcusable and, sadly, a symptom of society’s failure to instill compassion and caring in every human being.
Thanks to the rapid communication provided by the Internet, we learned that the Lewiston Maineiacs hockey team and others have come to the rescue and volunteered time and energy to return dignity and serenity to this sacred space.
To the young men and women and all others who participated in the restoration of the markers, we give our thankful appreciation and salute you.
The goodness in people will prevail.
