LEWISTON — Advocates for Children will offer a course for professionals who may deal with children and teenagers who are victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. “Responding to Child Abuse” will offer an opportunity to learn more about current child abuse and neglect issues from professionals presenting on topics in their fields of expertise. It will also help participants to examine how dealing with these issues affects them both personally and professionally.

The course will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 20 to Dec. 13, with no class during school vacations. The class is available to educators, child care personnel and others working with children and families. Community providers and professionals will provide information on the many aspects of child abuse and neglect in Androscoggin County.

Some of the topics presented will be: effects of domestic abuse, dynamics of abusive families, medical perspectives, the legal system and the role of law enforcement.

The registration fee is $195. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive 4.5 Continuing Education Units. For more information or a registration form, call Advocates for Children at 783-3990 or e-mail [email protected]
