An automobile which has been in a local garage for the past two days has attracted considerable attention. It is an Italian car said to have cost $11,400 and is a beauty. The owner is Mr. Williams, a millionaire from New Orleans. He left the car here to go on to the eastern part of the state for a day or so, believing that the car would be too heavy for Maine roads any further on.

50 years ago, 1960

Lake Auburn is down about six inches from the 14-year average. Last year at this time the lake level was about at the average height and four inches above the level of the corresponding period of 1958.

At that rate, the lake is down about 419,634,068,000 gallons.

A cubic foot of water spread over the 2,600 acres covered by Lake Auburn contains 839,268,136,000 gallons.

25 years ago 1985

People who operate boats, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles in Maine while drunk may soon find life a little less pleasant; more of them can expect to wind up in jail.

All 97 game wardens are being trained how to nab drunks on the water and in the woods. They are learning how to spot impaired operators and how to use breathalyzers to make arrests, said Warden Sgt. Langdon Chandler, who directs the training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Waterville.
