AUGUSTA — Three days into this trial, Kenneth McDonald plead guilty to murdering his mother, the Kennebec Journal reports.
McDonald, 44, was accused of killing his mother, Janice McDonald, 80, in their home on Highland Terrace in Monmouth.
McDonald had made a statement to his sister that he had killed his mother, which was allowed in the trial. While he had earlier pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, his attorney argued to the jury that the charge should be manslaughter, not murder, the Kennebec Journal reports.
