LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a monthly book club for cancer patients and survivors titled “Our Journey to Healing.”

The club will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, beginning Sept. 8, in Central Maine Medical Center’s Conference Classroom. Space is limited to 15 participants and the first 10 registrants for each session will receive a free copy of the monthly book selection.

The club serves as an additional resource in which to come together to read thought-provoking, insightful literature and to share opinions and perspectives within the group. The club will also offer a place to give and receive support, serve as an intellectual outlet and provide an opportunity to socialize.

“Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin will be the first book discussed. Julie Leahy, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, neuroendocrine carcinoma, nearly a year ago, will serve as group leader.

“After I was able to accept the diagnosis, I decided that living each day to the fullest would be my daily goal,” she said. “I feel that a book club could enhance a cancer survivor’s social, spiritual and intellectual needs and I am truly excited about being a part of this exciting and worthwhile club.”

Registration is available online or by phone. For more information, call the Dempsey Center at 795-8250, toll-free at 877-336-7287 or visit www.dempseycenter.org.
