WALES — Tori Zupancic’s second goal broke a second-half deadlock and sent Leavitt to a season-opening 3-1 victory over Oak Hill in a KVAC girls’ soccer game Friday.
Oak Hill started quickly, scoring 57 seconds into the game on a goal by Becca Belaire. Zupancic’s first goal gave Leavitt a 1-1 halftime tie.
The Hornets finally took the lead with 29 minutes left in the game when Zupancic scored on a deflected cross. Mariah Treadwell later added an insurance goal to seal the victory.
Kelly Pomerleau stopped seven shots to earn the win in goal, while Darby Beaulieu had 14 saves for Oak Hill.
EL 2, Oxford Hills 1
AUBURN — Goals by Jaclyn Masters and Emily Hartnett lifted Edward Little to a 2-1 victory over Oxford Hills in their KVAC season opener.
After Masters scored the lone goal of the first half, Hartnett produced the eventual game-winner on a pass from Allarie Lever early in the second half.
Oxford Hills avoided the shutout on Kiersten Zufelt’s unassisted goal.
Taylor Landry made nine saves for Edward Little, while Sam Hatch was credited with 20 saves for the Vikings.
Morse 2, Lewiston 0
BATH — Katie Hendrikson scored on Tori Field’s assist in the first half, and Field went solo and scored in the second as the Morse Shipbuilders sailed off with a 2-0 victory over Lewiston in a girls’ soccer opener Friday.
The Shipbuilders took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Field shipped the ball over to Hendrikson, who punched the ball in for a goal. Field then gave Morse a two-goal cushion in the second half when she scored off a corner kick.
Lewiston goalie Mackenzi Masselli was quite busy in net, making 19 saves.
Lisbon 1, Mt. Abram 0
LISBON — Kayla Angelico used a long punt from goalie Kyrstin Ramich and scored with 34:28 left in the second half, as Lisbon held on for a 1-0 victory over Mt. Abram in a girls’ soccer opener Friday.
After a scoreless first half, Ramich got the ball and punted it. Angelico was there to take the ball off the transition and scored.
Mt. Abram goalie Allison Lopez gave the Greyhounds a hard time, making 15 saves. Ramich made five.
Poland 3, Wells 1
POLAND — Freshman Emily Bolduc and teammate Emma Turton took turns scoring and assisting each other as Poland dispatched Wells with a 3-1 victory in a girls’ soccer opener Friday.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Bolduc scored first with the help of Turton. Tanisha Elston gave Poland some breathing room when she scored after taking the ball up the field and avoiding a few Warriors along the way.
In the second half, Turton scored on a Bolduc assist. But the Warriors got one on the board when Sophie Lamb scored off a direct kid.
Poland goalie Cassie Mocciola was strong in net, making 10 saves. Wells outshot the Knights, 18-13.
St. Dom’s 9, Wiscasset 0
AUBURN — Clara Bosco and Kayla McLellan each schored a hat trick to lead St. Dom’s to a season-opening 9-0 triumph over Wiscasset.
The Saints quickly put the game out of reach with six goals in the opening half.
Also scoring for the St. Dom’s were Sophie Goulet, Marley Byrne and Stephanie Costello. Byrne also chipped in with three assists and Hailey Girardin added a pair of assists.
Mary Caron stopped all four shots she faced for the shutout.
Dirigo 4, Hall-Dale 2
DIXFIELD — Natalie Bolduc’s second goal of the game snapped a 2-2 tie with 16:36 left in the second half to help lift Dirigo to a 4-2 victory over Hall-Dale in a Mountain Valley Conference girls’ soccer match Friday.
Erin Turner and Lindsy Crutchfield also added goals for the Cougars. Paige Murphy contributed a pair of assists. Natasha Deroche stopped 23 shots in earning the victory in goal.
Kristina Buck and Michelle Pelletier both scored for Hall-Dale.
Monmouth 2, Carrabec 0
MONMOUTH — Ashley Coulombe assisted on a pair of Danielle Bumann goals as Monmouth swept past Carrabec in a 2-0 girls’ soccer win Friday.
Coulombe corralled a long rebound and made a touch pass to Bumann, who scored from six yards out. The two hooked up again in the second half as Coulombe flipped a pass through the Carrabec defense and Bumann pushed it in past keeper Maria Murphy (14 saves).
Kelsie Hilton made 11 saves to earn the win.
Mt. Blue 3, Messalonskee 1
FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with three second-half goals, downing Messalonskee 3-1 in KVAC girls’ soccer action.
Abby Flanagan scored off an indirect kick from Rachel Karno about 18 minutes into the second half to even the score. Senior Marlie Mochamer netted the go-ahead goal three minutes later. Flanagan would add another goal off a penalty kick to finish the scoring.
Senior Allison Brown turned away five shots for Mt. Blue, while Shawna Oliver saved five as well for Messalonskee.
Winslow 1, Lincoln 0
NEWCASTLE — Linsey Vigue broke away from the pack and beat Lincoln Academy goalie Emma Lazzari to the ball and scored as Winslow held on for a 1-0 victory in a girls’ soccer opener.
Vigue’s goal came in the first half as Winslow played tough defense the rest of the way. Winslow goalie Elizabeth Ferry made five saves in net.
Field hockey
Traip 2, Poland 1
KITTERY — Kaylie Andrews scored the game-winning goal 30 seconds into overtime as Traip notched a 2-1 victory over Poland in WMC field hockey action Friday evening.
Following a scoreless first half, Mimi Carmichael put the Knights on the board first on a breakaway with 28:44 remaining in regulation.
Roughly four minutes later, Ashley Roberts scored on a corner to even the game for the Rangers.
Traip controlled the game offensively with a 17-3 margin in shots. Goalie Melora Lavoie made 17 saves for Poland, while Alyssa Lawrence earned the win in net on two saves for Traip.
Brewer 8, Lewiston 0
BREWER — Brewer took an early 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back en route to an 8-0 victory over Lewiston in field hockey action Friday afternoon.
Delaney Turner struck first, scoring a pair of early first-half goals. Rowan Bost also added a goal before the half. Carly Seymour opened the second half with a pair of goals of her own. Lindsey Jellison, Chelsea Richards, and Sarah Babin each netted a goal for the Witches.
Lewiston keeper Allison Lafreniere turned away nine shots while Brewer goalie Casey White stopped 10 in the season-openers for both teams.
