100 years ago, 1910

A special meeting of the Lewiston School Board was held last evening when several teachers were elected upon recommendation of the committee on teachers and instruction. William M. Cullen was elected principal of Frye Grammar School at a salary of $1,100 to succeed M. D. Carroll whose resignation was accepted. Ernest Curley was elected instructor of manual training at a salary of $700.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston police officers doing traffic duty got a real workout yesterday afternoon as hundreds of motorists and shoppers thronged the business district.

It was the heaviest traffic police have had to handle for some time and was a real test of the new one-way street system.

Four traffic officers were stationed between Lisbon and Bates streets, on Main Street, to handle a “continual flow” of cars and trucks along the main artery.

25 years ago 1985

The Pine Tree Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps, “Maine’s Marching Ambassadors,” spent two and a half days in Allentown, Penn. where they competed in the World Senior Championship in the Drum Corps Associates.

As a senior corps, the Warriors competed with the likes of the illustrious Hawthorne Caballeros, of Hawthorne, N. J., who won the contest.
