CARTHAGE — A 36-year-old man was killed and three people were sent to  hospitals Monday morning after the vehicle he was driving missed a stop sign and drove into the path of an oncoming truck, according to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 142 and West Side Road at 10:05 a.m. Police said Tolga Ozkur, driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, died at the scene.

The driver of the other truck, Troy McCormick of Wilton, his young daughter, and another passenger Ashlee Cote were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital. Ozkur’s passenger, Casandra Patnode of Wales, was taken to Rumford Hospital.

According to a story by the Morning Sentinel, Ozkur was from Wales, although his facebook page shows his residence as Sabattus.

Several members of the sheriff’s department as well as the Maine State Police are investigating. According to the press release, neither alcohol nor excessive speed were thought to be involved.
