BETHEL — Selectmen on Tuesday extended Town Manager Jim Doar’s contract two years to 2014.
The vote was 4-1, with Chairman Stan Howe, Dennis Doyon, Don Bennett and Jack Cross in favor and Bob Everett against.
Doar’s annual salary will be $56,500 for 2011, $58,760 for 2012, and $61,100 for 2013. His current annual pay is $54,500.
Selectmen learned Tuesday of a consent agreement from the state attorney general regarding the Bingham land. They requested further information on on the agreement, which essentially names the town of Bethel, with certain requirements, as trustee for the 2,300-acre parcel.
Doar said Chapman Brook, which crosses the land, had served as the town’s water source until two years ago when flooding forced discontinuance of its use. According to the original deed, if ever the brook stopped serving as a water source for the town, the land was to become a conservation area.
The Bethel Water District has petitioned the attorney general to amend the deed.
Doar said much more information is needed before selectmen can act on the 11-page consent agreement.
“They are still putting the information together,” he said Wednesday afternoon.
If the board accepts the agreement, a special town meeting will be called to ask for public approval, Doar said.
