LIVERMORE — Selectpersons will hold a special meeting Thursday to set the tax rate for 2010-11. The rate is expected to decrease.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at the town office.
Town administrative assistant Kurt Schaub anticipates the tax rate being set about 20 percent lower than the current $15.90 per $1,000 of property valuation.
The assessed values in the town were running 78 percent to 80 percent of state value, Schaub said.
The town had a revaluation done recently without going to every property, which included an in-depth analysis on the values of different types of properties, such as waterfront, farmland and base lots. The value on the whole has increased 20 percent, he said.
Contributing to the lower tax rate is the lower municipal budget and only slight increases in the town’s share of the Regional School Unit 36 and Androscoggin County budgets.
Schaub said he expects the tax rate to be lower than the estimated $14.15 that was listed on property owners’ revaluations that were sent out.
