A baby is not an anchor. That term is used to perpetuate an assumption that an immigrant mother would have a child to achieve citizenship, rather than for the same reasons the rest of us do.

I doubt this assumption, but I write to warn of something more dangerous, which is the effect of the term repeated in public, in the media, and by our politicians. It objectifies, dehumanizes, makes it easier not to love. Its users walk a very dark road, some intentionally and others who should know better.

People of goodwill and of all faiths should stand up and be counted against this, but Christians have a special responsibility, for our numbers are sufficient to put a stop to it.

Let no voice, especially no Christian voice, be silent this time.
