CARRABASSETT VALLEY – No one was injured Monday after parts of a SAD 58 bus and a pickup truck clipped each other on Route 27, police Chief Scott Nichols said Tuesday.
The school bus, driven by Michael Steward, 51, of Stratton, was traveling north when the mechanical arm of the stop sign on the bus and the mirror of a truck traveling south collided, Nichols said.
The mirror on the truck was pushed back against the truck driver’s window and broke the window, spraying glass shards onto the four truck occupants, including driver, Tim Hancock, 46, of Skowhegan, Nichols said.
There was a tractor-trailer parked on the side of the road that was sticking out about 2 feet into the road, which narrowed the travel space for the bus and pickup truck, Nichols said.
The bus driver and a student, and the truck occupants were not injured, he said.
The accident occurred not too far from the Carrabassett Valley Academy complex.
Nichols estimated the damage to the bus at $300 and the truck at $1,000.
