AUBURN — Author Richard Cohen will present “The Forgotten Longfellow” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.
Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow, the now largely forgotten younger brother of the famous Maine poet, was an artist, engineer, cartographer and important explorer of Maine’s then uncharted northern reaches. Yet, for all his accomplishments, he “never felt like he amounted to much.”
His life story has been recorded by Cohen, who will discuss his new book “The Forgotten Longfellow: Man in the Shadows.” The book draws heavily from Longfellow’s own writings, including personal letters and survey logs, and is illustrated by maps and other images.
Cohen is a retired professor and president of academic affairs at the University of Maine.
The free PrimeTime Tuesdays program will be held in the library’s Androscoggin Community Room. PrimeTime programs are especially foradults 50 and over, but all are invited to attend. For more information, call the library reference desk at 333-6640. ext. 4.
