AUBURN — Questions about assessing property will be one topic on a busy City Council workshop agenda Monday.
City Manager Glenn Aho said a number of residents and councilors have raised questions about the city’s Assessing Department, assessing practices and the Patriot system assessing software.
The workshop meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Aho said a representative from the state Revenue Department would be on hand for Monday’s meeting.
“We’re having someone from the state come down and explain some terms, like ‘fair market value’ and ‘just value,'” Aho said. “It’ll be something like Assessing 101.”
The city Assessing Department uses past sales combined with zoning and development information, as well as individual property values. Individual property values are combined citywide to arrive at an overall assessed value.
In Auburn, the current property tax rate is $19.30 per $1,000 of property value. The city’s 2009-10 assessed value is $2.16 billion.
Councilors are also scheduled to discuss adopting a traffic policy for a popular holiday lights display on Vista Drive and what they want to happen at the Great Falls School on Academy Street.
