GARDINER — The all-women, 17-piece big band Edith Jones Project will swing into the holidays on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center.
The band will perform selections from five decades of big band music, and will be up to its usual antics, jokes and festive props — all with a holiday twist.
The Edith Jones Project plays modern big band jazz made famous by Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, the Count Basie Orchestra and others. Members, who have played worldwide, include faculty from Bates College, the University of Southern Maine, the University of New Hampshire and Bowdoin College, plus high, middle and elementary schools throughout southern Maine.
The Sounds Good! Music Live at Johnson Hall concert will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15, $6 for students. Call 582-7144. For more information, visit www.johnsonhall.org.
