Chester Greenwood Day partial listing of events announced

FARMINGTON – The 34th annual celebration of the famous inventor of the earmuff – Farmington’s own Chester Greenwood – will take place on Saturday, December 4 this year with a partial listing of events as follows:

* Annual Chester Greenwood Parade begins at 11 a.m. through downtown Farmington. Entries for the parade can begin lining up at the Perkins Lot on Quebec Street at 10 a.m. Judging of floats will begin at 10:30 a.m., with cash prizes and ribbons awarded in four categories: Theme, Originality, Appearance and Youth Group. Please note candy throwing will be permitted by individuals walking along the parade route only – not from the floats themselves, for safety reasons. Pre-registration required. FREE. This year’s theme is ‘A Child’s World of Wonder.’ As always, earmuffs must be incorporated into each float and entry marching in the parade. Hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, Chester Greenwood Family, and WKTJ.

* WKTJ Live Remote inside Bangor Savings Bank, Main Street, downtown Farmington.

* Annual Chamber of Commerce Chili Contest following the parade in the Bangor Savings Bank building on Front Street from 12:30-1 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged; drop off your entry between 11:30-11:45 a.m. FREE. Ribbons and a traveling trophy awarded. Chester Greenwood cake will be served after the chili contest provided by Hannaford – Farmington and hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

*The Chester Greenwood Flag Raising will take place at the Franklin County Courthouse after the parade at approximately 12:15 p.m. Hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

* Horse and wagon rides throughout the downtown area begin at noon until 1 p.m. Pickup and drop off location will be at the Bangor Savings Bank area on Main Street. FREE. Hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

* The Farmington Historical Society will be displaying vintage Greenwood items at the Titcomb House, as well as selling holiday wreaths.

* The Emblem Club will host their annual craft fair at the Farmington Elks Lodge, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

* 4th annual Gingerbread House Contest! Entries may be dropped off at the Main Street location of Bangor Savings Bank on Saturday morning between 10-10:30 a.m. The gingerbread creations will be on display from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The creations will be reviewed by a panel of judges at 10:45 a.m. and ribbons awarded for both adults and children. This year’s theme: A Child’s World of Wonder. Pre-registration encouraged. FREE. Hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

* The Farmington Rotary Club’s annual Festival of Trees will be held at the Granary Restaurant (upstairs) all day, with a reception and auction of the trees taking place that evening. Viewing begins at 10 a.m. Auction at 6 p.m.

* The Polar Bear Club members annual dip into frigid Clearwater Lake (Industry) will take place at 3 p.m., and is always a crowd pleaser!
