LEWISTON — On Saturday, Jan. 8, Art Pulse Cooperative Gallery will hold an opening reception for an exhibit of works by Jason Landry, local photographer and philosopher.

“This is a one-man, mano et mano stage, a solo show entitled ‘Origins of Jaydom’ that allows Jason a unique chance to cover the walls with a few dozen of his finest works. He has the brilliant ability to capture images and secure them within the borders of his shots. What is in focus plays with what is chosen not to be in focus. In short, he is playing games,” said guest curator Hunter Matthews.

Landry, who spent his youth in the Lewiston area, took typical photos of people and events until he decided to take up painting. “I was going out into the woods to take pictures of trees, rocks, water, wildlife with the intentions of returning home to paint. What I realized that was happening is that I was understanding the strengths and power of the camera and the lens,” Landry said.

The reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the gallery at 178 Lisbon St., on the second floor. The solo exhibit will run through the month of January and will be open from 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with additional hours from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
