On Friday, Jan. 14, the Bald Hill Bluegrass will perform at She Doesn’t Like Guthries in Lewiston. Making up the band are Ben DeTroy on mandolin; Chris Ricardi, guitar; Mike Conant, fiddle/banjo; and Tim Clough, stand-up bass. All hail from New Gloucester with the exception of Clough, who lives in Auburn. As DeTroy says, “Some of us live on Bald Hill; the others wish they did.” The four musicians aspire to give homage to Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass and his bluegrass ‘boys.’ They don’t stick to the traditional, however and have been known to pull out a Jimi Hendricks or Led Zeppelin tune on occasion. Other influences are The Dead, The Band, Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman, The Seldom Scene and Hank Williams. The show will start at 9 p.m. No cover charge.
