STRATTON — The Dead River Historical Society has announce it has received a grant of $4,250 from the Morton-Kelly Charitable Trust to have an exit from the second-floor exhibit rooms replaced.
The old outside staircase, door and trim have rotted. The stairs had to be removed a few years ago. When it was walled up, the code enforcement officer said the society had to replace it. Due to the grant, the museum will be up to code before opening in the spring.
The society is a nonprofit organization, incorporated in 1979 for the purpose of preserving and promoting interest in the history of the Dead River area. Artifacts have been donated or loaned from interested townspeople and descendants of the Dead River areas.
The society is open every weekend during July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rest of the year it is open by appointment.
