PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Jerry Tucker and Bob Darling of Lewiston matched scores of 69-135 on adjacent golf courses Wednesday to become the pacesetters heading into the final round of the 27th annual PGA Senior Stroke Play Championship at The PGA Golf Club.

Tucker, a teaching professional at Trump International in West Palm Beach, shot 69 on the Wanamaker Course with four birdies and a bogey to lead seven age groups from 60-64 through 90-and-older. He beat many of the same players Saturday in the PGA Quarter Century Club Championship on the Wanamaker to win overall honors for age groups 49-under through 60-64.

Tucker won the Quarter Century by three strokes despite a double bogey at the par-4 18th hole. He made birdie Wednesday at No. 18.

Darling, head professional at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn, birdied all four par-5 holes on the Ryder Course and had five birdies and two birdies altogether, the best effort for age groups 50-54 and 55-59. The field of 231 PGA professionals 50 years and older switch courses again for the final round Thursday, returning to the venue where they played their opening rounds Tuesday. The overall winner on each course receives a $1,500 bonus.

Albany 65, Maine 50

ORONO — Ebone Henry hit for 17 points and sparked a 10-0 second-half run as Albany overcame a halftime tie to upend the University of Maine women 65-50 at Alfond Arena on Wednesday.

Cassandra Callaway added 16 for the visiting Great Danes (10-6, 3-0 America East), while Felicia Johnson had 10.

Ashleigh Roberts led the Black Bears (3-13, 1-3) with 11 points in the loss, as Albany shot 39 percent from the floor to the Black Bears’ 31 percent, making up for Maine’s 45-36 edge on the boards.

Men’s basketball

Maine 66, Albany 64

ALBANY, N.Y. — Raheem Singleton made two free throws with 3.6 seconds left and Gerald McLemore added 19 points as the University of Maine men’s basketball team defeated Albany 66-64 at SEFCU Arena on Wednesday night.

Maine is now 9-7 overall and 3-1 in league play while Albany falls to 8-11 and 1-3 in league play.

Terrance Mitchell made a nice pass to get things started , going over the top of the defense from beyond the right elbow to find an open Sean McNally down low for a layup.

Troy Barnies of Auburn would follow that with a pair of mid range jumpers, and Gerald McLemore connected on a 3-pointer from the corner to give Maine a 9-2 lead three minutes into the game.

The Black Bears got a steal, and Raheem Singleton converted the fastbreak layup and the foul to give Maine a 10-point lead. Albany responded to take a 19-15 lead with 7:20 left, but a Barnies layup and foul made it a one-point Great Dane lead.

The Great Danes would take a 27-22 lead with 3:32 to play, and hold a 32-27 lead until McLemore canned a three from the corner with 17 seconds left. Maine got a stop on the other end and Albany had a 32-30 edge at halftime.

Barnies led Maine with 10 points and three rebounds while McLemore added nine.

Maine shot 45.8 percent in the first stanza while Albany shot 42.9 percent.

Barnies would get Maine off to a good start in the second half, blocking what looked like an easy Great Dane layup. Neither team could score on their next possessions, but Mitchell made two threes from the corner and Barnies made a layup to give the Black Bears a 38-32 lead just over two minutes into the second half.

Albany took a 40-38 lead before Mitchell made another three to give Maine a one-point lead.

The Great Danes answered with a three of their own, but a McLemore responded with a three while being hit.

Singleton then followed a Black Bear stop with a fastbreak layup and Barnies made a turnaround hook on the low block to give Maine a 48-43 lead with 12:30 left in the game.

Albany would tie the game at 49, before Mike Allison (Lynden, Ontario) made a jumper from the wing. A Barnies free throw would give Maine a three-point lead, before Albany converted to cut the lead to one with 8:39 left.

Barnies finished with 18 points and seven rebounds while Singleton had nine points and 10 assists.

Jaymie Druding also scored 10 in the loss for Maine.
