NORWAY — A Safe Sitter® class will be offered by Stephens Memorial Hospital from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Harper Conference Center. Family Birthplace nurses Carol Welsh, RN and Sandra Smith-Jewell, RN, will be instructors.

The program is a medically accurate, hands-on instructional program designed for young adolescents that teaches them how to handle emergencies when caring for children.

Stephens Memorial Hospital has four Safe Sitter certified instructors who offer classes during school vacations. Safe Sitters learn infant and child CPR, choking procedure, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills and how to entertain children and keep them safe. The classes are geared for ages 11 to 13.

The fee for the two-day class is $50. A scholarship of $15 is available on request. For information and registration, call 743-5933, ext. 380. Online registration may be done via www.wmhcc.org. There are a few slots left in the February class, and registration is open for April 19 and 22.
