AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA recently recognized volunteers who have contributed to the community through their efforts on the YMCA board of directors.

In particular, Penny Woodard and Malcolm Philbrook have been mainstays at the Y, collectively serving on the board for more than 65 years.

Woodard is not only retiring from the board, but also as board president for 2009-2010. He was instrumental in the development of the YMCA Biddy Basketball League created in the 1960s. It is still going today.

Philbrook has also served as president and, as a local attorney who administers estate plans, has also chaired the Investment Committee for several years.

Both plan to continue their involvement with the YMCA at the committee level and shared their intentions to support the efforts of building a new YMCA.
