Lewiston issues parking ban

LEWISTON — The city has enacted an emergency parking ban beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, ending at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The parking ban applies to all streets in the city of Lewiston, and police and city official have asked people to move cars to allow for snow removal.

Vehicles parked in violation of the ban will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Auburn issues parking ban

AUBURN — The city of Auburn has activated a parking ban beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday through 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Police urge motorists to add extra time to the evening commute.

River Valley and Bethel area schools closed early

River Valley and Bethel areas were all closed by noon on Tuesday because of snow and freezing rain including the Region 9 School of Applied Technology, all schools in the Dirigo, Mountain Valley and Nezinscot sections of Western Foothills Regional School Unit No. 10, along with all schools in SAD 44.

Because the schools were closed after a half-day of classes, it will count as a full school day and not be taken from allotted snowdays.

All afterschool activities and practices were also cancelled and will be rescheduled for later dates.

At Crescent Park Elementary School in Bethel, the planned auditions for the Dickens’ novel, “Oliver Twist” were postponed until 8:30 a.m., Wednesday.

Wilton Selectmen postponed

The Wilton Selectmen’s meeting and Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

The next meeting and the Public Hearing for the Traffic Ordinance will be Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Paris postpones meeting with Time Warner

PARIS – A public hearing on the Time Warner Cable contract for Norway and Paris has been postponed due to inclement weather.

According to Paris Town Manager Phil Tarr, the selectmen will discuss a new hearing date at the next meeting of the board.

 French Sing-Along Postponed

LEWISTON —  The Franco-American Collection French sing-along session planned for Wednesday, January 19, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, has been postponed until Wednesday, January 26. the event will take place from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. in Room 170, which is located just down the hall from the Collection’s reading room.

Oxford Hills School District postpones board meeting

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District has postponed its regularly scheduled School Board of Directors meeting from Tuesday, Jan. 18 to Monday, Jan. 24.

As of 1 p.m., USM LAC has dismissed students for the day.
