MEXICO — Counterfeit $20 bills that surfaced at Mexico businesses in the past week have the same serial numbers as those linked to a Mexico man last November, police said.

Mexico Police Department Sgt. Roy Hodsdon, who has been heading the investigation, arrested Jon Andrews, 36, of Main Street, on felony charges of forgery and trafficking in cocaine after receiving tips that counterfeit $10 and $20 bills were being circulated from Andrews’ apartment last November. Andrews remains in Androscoggin County Jail awaiting a Feb. 18 Superior Court appearance.

Hodsdon said he believes the two recent incidents of counterfeiting are related because the $20 bills have the same serial number as those that were circulated in November. He said two were reported to police on Jan. 14 from the Mexico Food Trend. Another three were turned in to the Police Department on Jan. 12.
