LEWISTON — More than 84 artists from Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties will show their paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and works in clay, glass, fiber and mixed media at the Atrium Art Gallery, beginning Friday, Jan. 21.

The biennial exhibition, “Area Artists 2011,” will be up through March 19.

The exhibition will feature work in a variety of styles from representational to abstract, with landscapes, figure studies and portraits still lifes, and sculptural work.

A free reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at the gallery at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St.

Playing at the reception will be jazz saxophonist Tim O’Dell, who composes, performs and records with several bands in Boston and other New England groups; and guitarist and composer Richard Nelson, who has performed throughout the United States and abroad.

The juried exhibition was open to artists 18 and older, who were allowed to submit one or two pieces in any media. The gallery received 186 works from 104 artists, out of which the jury selected 98 works from 84 artists for the final exhibition.

Jurors were Carolyn Eyler, director of exhibitions and programs for USM’s Portland and Gorham campuses, and Anthony Shostak, curator of education for Bates College’s Museum of Art.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday; and f9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday; closed holidays.
