RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital will celebrate Go Red for Women Day on Friday, Feb. 4. The Go Red for Women initiative was started in 2004 to educate the public about women and heart disease.

Wearing red and sporting a red dress pin for a $5 donation helps Rumford Hospital staffers remind everyone that heart disease is the number one cause of death for women.

The American Heart Association uses the money raised on Go Red for Women Day to provide brochures, checklists and heart-healthy recipes to help women reduce their risk of heart disease. Funds also supply speakers and heart disease screenings at community events.

Rumford Hospital staff members host a Heart-to-Heart conference every February, this year on Saturday, Feb. 26. The hospital fields a team and helps to organize the Central and Western Maine Heart Walk in Rumford in September.
