RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital and the River Valley Rotary will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Rumford American Legion. The drive will run from noon to 6 p.m. to accommodate people who may work until 5.
There will be “Double Red” machines at the drive. Those who plan to give double reds should mention that when they sign up, because special appointment lists are used.
Blood donations have been lower in the last few months and reserves are at a near-critical low. There is a particular need for type O negative blood, which can be received by people with all blood types and is often used in emergencies when there’s no time to determine the patient’s blood type.
Local callers are no longer being used to schedule appointments, but appointments can be made by calling the Red Cross number or Rumford Hospital. Call the Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE LIFE or Rumford Hospital at 369-1000 to sign up for whole blood or double red donations.
