JAY — Selectmen voted to set the price for town Dumpsters from $50 to $100.

The board eliminated Dumpster pickup service on June 30 and has agreed to sell the containers to those who have rented them. If the Dumpsters are not wanted, the town will pick them up.

“We have 43 town-owned Dumpsters,” Chairman Steve McCourt said Monday.

Selectmen had considered giving away the Dumpsters but a legal opinion determined they couldn’t do it.

The scrap prices of Dumpsters were checked out to get an idea of what the town should charge. It was determined that each one weighs about 1,000 pounds and would be worth about $100, McCourt said.

The board approved a price schedule for four-yard Dumpsters that have been rented out for 10 years or longer to be sold for $50; rented five to nine years, $75, and ones rented less than five years, $100.

The six-yard Dumpsters have all been rented out longer than 10 years. The price set on those are $75 each.
