FARMINGTON — The Police Department’s traffic accident reports are now available through an online service.

As a convenience for the public and insurance companies, and a time saver for the department, the online service found at www.Docview.us.com allows a person to find and print a copy of their accident report, Deputy Chief Shane Cote said.

Accident reports compiled by department officers for December and January are already listed in the Docview program. They can usually be viewed within 24 hours of being scanned into the system.

The department files nearly 500 traffic accident reports yearly, he said. The Internet access to the reports is expected to “significantly reduce the time spent dealing with insurance agencies and citizens seeking copies of traffic crashes,” he said in a statement.

There is a charge for obtaining copies as well as photos.

People may still obtain copies of accident reports at the Police Department for a fee, he said.
