BANGOR — The trial of a Maine man charged with shooting to death another man during a fight on a Bangor street is being delayed until the end of the month because defense attorneys have received new information.

The trial of 19-year-old Zachary Carr had been scheduled to begin Monday in Bangor.

Instead, Superior Court Justice Michaela Murphy delayed the trial until Feb. 28.

Carr has pleaded not guilty to charges he shot and killed 19-year-old John “Bobby” Surles with a handgun in January 2010 during a fight. Surles was unarmed.

The Bangor Daily News says defense attorneys say they need time to investigate a statement that a witness saw another person in the crowd with a gun.

If convicted, Carr faces 25 years to life in prison.
