JAY — Firefighters used foam to extinguish a fire on a bulldozer on Friday afternoon at Verso Paper, Jay fire Capt. Justin Merrill said Monday.
The fire caused extensive damage to the machine, he said.
The call came in that a bulldozer was fully engulfed in the yard near the chip pile at the company’s Androscoggin Mill on Riley Road, Merrill said.
About 15 firefighters from Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls responded.
Verso employees raised the cab of the dozer, a John Deere, with a boom truck so firefighters could check the undercarriage of the machine to make sure the fire was out, Merrill said.
It is believed there was an equipment malfunction, he said.
The cab was completely gone and the engine compartment was gone, Merrill said.
