President’s Message

Every two minutes an American dies from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) – not breast cancer, lung cancer or HIV/AIDS, combined. By the end of 2011, nearly 300,000 Americans will die from SCA, making it the nation’s leading cause of death. Sadly, only seven percent of victims survive.

February is Heart Month – a perfect time for us to urge federal lawmakers to step up their response to the nation’s leading cause of death. Locally, we can reflect on our own community preparedness in response to the public health crisis of SCA, and that’s as simple as identifying locations of AEDs and learning what we can do as bystanders.

We at the River Valley Chamber of Commerce care about you… this is why we have taken a proactive approach to this public crisis and applied for an Oxford County Automated External Defibrillator Grant. We are pleased to announce we have been awarded an AED and Heartsaver CPR Training along with First Aid certification.

What this mean for you as residents within the River Valley is that you can feel safe attending our Chamber events knowing we have the necessary tools to assist in making a difference should a Sudden Cardiac Arrest event occur.

In addition, we will proudly serve our visitors from away within the Information Center having the AED available. We are a Heart Safe Community!
