Principal Cullen of the Frye Grammar School is to give a banquet to the championship football team of last fall Saturday evening at the school hall. Ernest Curley, the manual training instructor, and Thomas F. O’Brien, the two coaches, will also be present.

50 years ago, 1961

Big display windows in at least three Lewiston business establishments were shattered or cracked early last night by a thundering sonic boom that rocked the area.

Police Lt. Andre Roux said the department received reports of damage at Atherton Furniture Co., 220 Lisbon St., Beals Laundry Center, 969 Lisbon St., and at the former Mohigan Market building on Main Street.

It was theorized that other business places might also have received glass damage not immediately noted because stores are generally closed at the time of the blast.

25 years ago, 1986

FARMINGTON — The Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Town annual conference was held recently in New York City. It welcomed over 175 fund volunteers from 13 states and Canada.

Pat and Tony Scucci attended representing the Farmington Friendly Town — one of Maine’s three Friendly Town Committees. The conference brought together fund volunteers and New York City agency representatives to discuss this year’s plans to provide nearly 10,000 inner-city kids with a two-week Friendly Town vacation.
