POLAND — An Auburn man died Friday of injuries suffered in a snowmobile crash the night before on Middle Range Pond.

Robert Bissonette, 35, died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston of injuries suffered when his snowmobile crashed into another driven by a friend.

The second rider, Jared Murphy, 20, of Poland was listed in serious condition at CMMC on Friday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The two men had left a restaurant at about 7 p.m. when they became separated near the pond, according to Warden Service Spokeswoman Deborah Turcotte. Murphy turned around to go search for Bissonette, Turcotte said. A short time later, the two snowmobiles collided head-on.

Bissonette suffered a head injury in the crash and was unconscious when rescue crews first reached him.

The Maine Warden Service was continuing to investigate.
