POWNAL — The Pownal Veterinary Hospital announces its grand opening and is celebrating with an open house, which will be held Feb. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at the clinic, 191 Hallowell Road.

The event is free and open to the public. Children and pets are welcome, and refreshments will be served. There will be free raffles and giveaways. A behind-the-scenes tour will be offered, as well as a chance to meet the staff and check out the facility and equipment. Visitors are invited to bring in pet food to be donated to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Dr. Karen Richter-Hall graduated from Deering High School in Portland before attending Simmons College in Boston. In 1993, she graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. After graduating, she returned home to Maine where she practiced in the greater Portland area, eventually becoming a certified veterinary acupuncturist in addition to her traditional training. Dr. Richter-Hall began a house call practice in 2008 as she and her husband located a building for the clinic and performed renovations.

Services at the Pownal Veterinary Clinic include physical exams for dogs, cats and small mammals; vaccinations, lab services, surgeries, x-rays, acupuncture, medications for fleas, ticks and heartworm, and humane euthanasias.
