AUBURN — Albert W. Smith, 85, of New Sharon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, at Androscoggin Hospice House.

He was born Oct. 4, 1925, in New Sharon, the son of Frank H. and Lena A. (Works) Smith. He attended New Sharon schools and married Miriam Salo on Aug. 23, 1959. Albert was in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany.

He worked the family dairy farm his whole life with his brother, James. Albert was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge in New Sharon for more than 55 years serving as Tyler. He also served on the board of directors as vice president at the Farmington Farmers Union and was deputy treasurer for the town of New Sharon.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing cribbage with his grandson, watching pulling at the Farmington Fair, spending time visiting with friends and watching sports on television.

Albert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Miriam; his son, Arnold Smith of Auburn; his daughter, Naimi Smith-Vieno, her husband, Jarmo Vieno and their son, Niklas of Finland; his sister, Ruby Smith of Tampa, Fla.; his brother, James Smith of New Sharon; cousins, Etta Suites of Florida, and Edith Hill of Connecticut; nieces and nephews, Frank, Ben, Rob, Edie, Sonny and Eric; cousins and special relatives, Kim and Bradley; and neighbors and friends.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Hazel.
